As the Director of Engineering (f/m/d) within the New Games incubation center (R&D) at Travian Games, you will shape the technical vision and drive the execution of the team's roadmap in partnership with other engineering leaders while working with cross-functional roles. You will oversee engineering efforts on multiple early-stage products within the studio, specifically focusing on products in the prototype and pre-production stage.

• Oversee engineering for the products in the prototype and pre-production stage  
• Work closely with the engineers to ensure they are supported 
• Mentor engineers on the best practices of prototype and pre-production stage 
• Help manage the process of staffing, onboarding, advancement, and off-boarding for engineers  
• Ensure that there is an effective engineering organization in place before teams move to the production stage  
• Directly manage Engineering Leads embedded in product teams. Directly manage individual engineers until there is an embedded Engineering Lead in place, coaching them, holding them accountable to best practices and to their growth plan  
• Shepard the creation of a technical framework across Travian’s new games and coordinate closely with Travian’s other technical departments to leverage reusable components and apply best practices in games of a service engineering 
• Foster cross-team collaboration 
• Guide the teams through product stage transitions  
• Champion your sourcing and hiring processes to identify and hire talented engineers 

Required Skills: 

• Experience shipping multiple live game titles on mobile and Unity in a leadership capacity 
• You’re a SERIOUS GAMER! You live and breathe games  
• Agile development experience 
• Can demonstrate experience using marketplace/store solutions/plugins. Doesn't re-invent the wheel 
• Low ego, ideas can be challenged, and opinions changed, not very attached to own ideas – seamless collaborator 
• Fundamental game development experience 
• Several years of experience as an Engineering Manager leading game teams 
• Several years of experience as a tech lead guiding the direction and implementation of a game  
• Experience in managing through other leads/managers 
• Experience in recruiting engineers, managers and building an engineering team 
• Experience in being part of a game team from the prototype stage to its launch

Desired Qualifications: 

• Experience in building technical frameworks to be leveraged by multiple games 
• Ability to get tactical early in the game lifecycle – hands-on with the team, working on features 
• longstanding experience within the games industry 
• Experience in 4x or tycoon games
